European surprises (#1 in single-image teaser series: “normal”, entirely legal sign)

Perchance the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers happened upon the pictured sign, they’d likely have impulse-emigrated to Italy!

After having seen several such signs on the exterior walls of Italian bottle shops, I wondered whether something was being “lost in translation”….

I have disappointing news for the FFB.

A resident of Ravello – a spectacularly located town, perched high above the Amalfi Coast’s shoreline – informed me that “wine and drugs” simply meant that a liquor store also sold olive oil and similar, nonalcoholic, not-narcotic substances.

(The FFB never reached it, but their real-life American compatriot Gore Vidal spent a deal of his adult life in Ravello. Click this)

My beloved and I are just returned from six weeks in Europe,  in places previously untouched by our feet.

Mostly, we were in southern Italy.

We also visited Salzburg and Berchtesgaden.

Eventually, I’ll be ready to present some more substantial European posts.

Meanwhile, this begins a series of mostly-quirky, single-image teasers.
