“Could I recommend the secessionist red, sir?”

“I think you’ll be amused by its impertinence”.

Sommeliers, please note: do not recommend this Red to “well informed” conspiracy theorists.

If informed of the relevant winery’s ownership status, Peter Dutton would be horrified to find this Red under his bed, let alone at a State Banquet.

For a decade or so a Chinese businessman has had a controlling interest (circa 80 percent ownership) in Ferngrove.

However, the winery is managed by West Australians who have a keener sense of humour than do most business owners and politicians, of whatever nationality.

”The benefits of international ownership” do not include immunity from persecution by China’s regime.

Many Australian wineries’ majority ownership is non-Australian, but they are all in the same “boat” as every other Australian winery.

Australian wine consumers – most especially those on the relevant wineries’ mailing lists – are currently enjoying a raft of bona fide bargains, in the wake of so many cancelled export orders from China.

The Ferngrove Tempranillo is excellent, and is truthfully described on its cheeky back label.

Greetings from WA’s Deep South.

We have mostly been sans-internet whilst here. “Normal” blog activity will resume in a few days.
