Typically, signs of the “Do not…”/Strictly prohibited…” kind are dull and stern.
Rarely does one encounter even a failed attempt at humour.
So hats off to Transperth – the Perth (Western Australia) public transport authority – and to whomever won the advertising contract for the “no vaping on trains, buses, ferries and their stations” campaign!
The pictured poster is one of a series that all showed much more wit and visual flair than one usually encounters when an “authority” conveys such a message.
I took the photo on 27 March 2024.
The next chapter in this series also involves a “Thou shalt not…” message which is conveyed clearly.
(not a few of this series’ chapters involve a sign that does not succeed in delivering to all readers the message that was intended)
#2’s sign is at least as arresting as #1’s.
And it so happens that the “doing of number 2s” is one of various activities it proscribes!
However, it is very safe to assume that any mirth on the part of its readers was not a response envisaged by its resolutely-humourless authors.
