“Old city”, Lahore (#15 in series: Wazir Khan mosque – courtyard’s walls)

This and the next chapter illustrate just how meticulous has been the restoration of the courtyard walls’ brickwork, and of the ornamental/decorative features on their inner side.

The ornamentation here is more spare – less “amazing”/“extravagant”/colourful/intricate – than are the astonishing frescoes on the ceilings of the domes in the mosque’s main prayer hall.

(this series’ 17th & 18th chapters will focus on the prayer hall)

To my mind, at least, the courtyard’s more “modest” ornamentation is no less beautiful than are the prayer hall’s much more lavish decorations.
