Teal, dependents…

Perth’s Lake Monger sits within the Federal electorate of Curtin.

It was named after a Labor Prime Minister, but until 2022 Curtin was generally regarded as a perpetually-“safe” Liberal seat.

Curtin’s mostly-affluent electors include the adult residents of Australia’s wealthiest postcode.

In 2022, however, Curtin “fell” to “Teal independent” candidate Kate Chaney.

Apolitically speaking, Teals have thrived here for at least many thousands of years.

The photo (copyright Doug Spencer) was taken on the western side of Lake Monger at 4.43 pm on Friday 23 September 2022.

The adult is, I think, a female Grey Teal, Anas gracilis.

She and her dependents/dependants currently reside within walking distance of Kate Chaney’s home.

Grey Teals can fly vast distances, but I imagine that the pictured individuals will probably never need to fly to anywhere thousands of kilometres away.

However, as a Federal MP from WA, Ms Chaney can look forward to a great many substantial flights; each round trip to-fro Canberra requires a minimum distance of more than 6,000 kilometres.

Perth and Canberra are a deal further apart than are London and Moscow, or San Francisco and Mexico City.
