Breaking wildlife photography “rules” ( #23 in Namibia single-image series)

From a very sensible “5 Quick Tips For Better Wildlife Shots”, which is worth reading:

One very important rule when photographing wildlife is to focus on the eyes of your subject.

As you can see, today’s photo breaks this rule…to its advantage, I think.

As 2022 is very nearly behind us, it is timely to include an image in which “behinds” are in front!

Photographically – as in many other fields –  there are sound “rules”, worth knowing and generally best-followed.

It is, however, wise to understand that “generally best” does not mean “always best”.

(the author of “5 Quick Tips” does understand this)

In November 2022 I took a number of “successful”, “law-abiding” photos of impala, but this “lawbreaker” pleases me more than any of them.

The photo (copyright Doug Spencer) shows impala rams (& a termite mound) in Okonjima, central Namibia, at 9.06 am on 04 November 2022.

Tomorrow’s post will conclude this “Namibia single-image series”.

Yes, I have finally completed my “edit/delete” marathon!

Tomorrow’s post will break the current “single-image” series rule.

Its musical bonus is a lovely contemplation of the annual transition from one year to the next.

Multi-image Namibian posts will commence later in January 2023, after a few Australian ones.
