“Red-tails in suburbia” (#13 in series)

Here, unmistakably, is a male, with crest evident.

As you can see, he was clearly aware of our presence, but not troubled by it.

We often walk by/under this particular “Cape Lilac”.

When Forest red-tailed black cockatoos first started to appear in “our” part of Perth, they were – almost invariably – very wary of humans, nearby.

By now, many of these highly intelligent birds have worked out that most of “us” do not pose an immediate threat.

They are still careful, but red-tails now quite often decide that it is safe to “carry on”, nearby human/s notwithstanding.

Fifteen years ago, this series of photos would have been an impossibility – I would not have been able to get “close enough, often enough”.
