Three of the same (#2 in series: three-striped roofed turtles)

One very rarely sees a reptilian troika.

Unsurprisingly, Batagur dhongoka – this post’s critically endangered species – is this little series’ sole reptile.

The behaviour depicted is characteristic…and it greatly boosts a human’s chances of enjoying a proper look, even taking a reasonable photo…

Three-striped roofed turtles are semi-aquatic – they like to spend a deal of their days basking on rivers’ sandbanks or exposed, sun-warmed rocks.

They are native to some of the more major rivers in the Ganges and Brahmaputra system.

Photo is copyright Doug Spencer, taken at 3.54 pm on 03 February 2020 on the Chambal River, in the National Chambal Sanctuary.

Jointly administered by three north Indian states – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh – this sanctuary is best known as the primary refuge for the Ganges Gharial.

The Gharial will get a multi-image post of its own before this year’s end, I promise.
