Winter sun, fungi, bark, lizard

Today in Perth was one of this city’s not at all rare, uncanny winter days – the kind which turns visitors into immigrants.

In Kings Park the winter-flowering Greenhood orchids are now emerging (see earlier post) and various fungi are evident.

Both photos were taken late this morning; the one below, whilst walking through inner suburbia, en route to Kings Park.

Peppermints – Agonis Flexuosa – are characteristic southwest Australian trees; they line many of Perth’s streets.

Peppermints are beautiful, albeit “untidy”, “shaggy”, with an almost “Rastafarian” canopy, and wonderfully irregular bark.

This winter’s day was lizard-friendly.
