October 30 2023: Darling Range flora, “up close” (#8 in series, with musical bonus)

The locale remains the same as #7’s, and this post also co-stars purple flags and WA-endemic (I think) “daisies”.

The focus is closer.

In #9 the focus will be closer still.

Musical bonus

The song’s “flower” is metaphorical (and stoically “heartbroken”).

Wildwood Flower is generally thought of as a “Carter Family song”, via their celebrated 1928 recording.

However, the song’s published origins go back to at least 1860, and its unpublished ones probably pre-dated that by a generation or more.

I particularly love this 1997 instrumental duo version, for David Grisman’s mandolin and Tony Rice’s guitar:

(David delivers the brief spoken intro. This duet is a perfect example of sheer musicality, utterly relaxed virtuosity)
