20% of the world’s known species have been seen there.
To put Colombia’s rich biodiversity into perspective, the 3,642 butterfly species found in Colombia can be compared to the 496 butterfly species found in Europe or the 4,000 butterfly species found in the entire African continent.

We encountered the pictured butterfly a few minutes after I had photographed the sunbittern pictured in #13 of this teaser series.
I suspect that this post’s butterfly is a member of the genus Heliconius.
Eventually, a handful of Colombia’s other 3,600+ butterfly species will make their Pelican Yoga debut.
