Cadney Roadhouse (#6 in SA/NT “outback” single image teaser series)

The Cadney Homestead Roadhouse is a bona fide “remote” location.

It sits on the Stuart Highway in South Australia’s far north, nearly 1,000 kilometres north of Adelaide, a little more than 150 ks north of Coober Pedy, and 534 ks south of Alice Springs.

The Painted Desert is conveniently nearby.

I am happy to report that when our little party turned up for late-afternoon ice creams on 12 June 2023, “mood” and “attitude” were positive on both sides of the Cadney service counter.

We then continued a further 82 kilometres to Marla Bore, where sits South Australia’s northernmost roadhouse…and its astonishingly large motel. (plus “restaurant”)

Traveller’s tip: Marla’s “roadhouse” motel is by no means a “terrible” accommodation choice, although it is your only choice in or near to Marla.

However, you’d be well-advised to arrive on a night other than the one immediately after the Finke Road Race’s conclusion…unless “social anthropology” is your particular passion.

I have never before seen so many “petrol heads” in one “remote” place!
