Incandescent rock? (#22 in SA/NT “outback” single image teaser series)

Strictly speaking, the answer is “no, of course not”.

However, when early morning or late afternoon sunshine “hits” some arid zone Australian rock faces, “incandescent” is almost the only appropriate adjective.

As you can see, this one appears to be emitting light, even if it is “really” only being affected by light.

Photo is copyright Doug Spencer, taken at 4.53 pm on 13 June 2023 in Rainbow Valley, circa 100 kilometres southeast of Alice Springs.

As at least one future multi-image Pelican Yoga post will eventually illustrate, Rainbow Valley fully justifies its name – and you will not be “cooked” –  if you go there when the sun sits low in a bright winter sky.

And that’s not all: this “desert” place’s rich array of beautiful plants is equally arresting.

Rainbow Valley also has great archeological and cultural significance.
