In overall volume, Colombia is the world’s third-largest coffee producer.
For arabica beans – generally regarded as the best variety – it is definitely the biggest producer.
Colombia is probably also #1, quality-wise.
Hacienda La Victoria is in a region especially noted for its excellent coffee beans – the foothills of northern Colombia’s Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, near the Caribbean coast.
Colombians do consume a lot of Colombian coffee, but what they usually drink is brewed from cheaper, “lower quality”, non-Arabica beans.
Most of Colombia’s premium-grade beans are exported.
It is highly likely that Australia’s coffee roasters, cafes & restaurants purchase more Colombian-grown Arabica beans than do Colombia’s.
